Unique Places To Hide A Spare Key To Your House

by Clifton Montgomery

If you never want to find yourself locked out of your house without any way to get back in, you will want to have a spare key hidden nearby. Of course, you will want to make sure that you are getting as creative as possible so that you will not have to worry about anyone stumbling across it. To help make sure that you are going to find the best spots to hide your spare key, you will want to take a few moments to review the following suggestions.

Under The Birdbath Rocks

Empty the birdbath of all water and dump the rocks or marbles out. Place your spare house key in a plastic sandwich bag that is able to be completely sealed and then lay in in the bottom of the birdbath bowl. You can secure the bag and key in place with strong packing tape. Once you have down that, you can place the rocks or marbles back in to the birdbath bowl and then fill it back up with water.

In The Tree Stump

Make use of a tree stump in your yard by drilling a small hole in the top of it. Just make sure that the hole is wide and long enough to fit a small prescription medication bottle. Place the single spare house key in the bottle and close the lid tight. Slide the bottle into the hole in the tree stump and then cover the hole with a decorative item such as a garden gnome or bird house.

Behind The Vinyl Siding

Find a section of the vinyl siding where there is an end piece that can be gently pulled up. Attach a string to one end of your spare house key and then slide the key in behind the siding. You can tape it in place using clear packing tape so it is not as noticeable. This would also help to make sure that the key does not fall out of place and get lost behind the siding.

With the previously mentioned hiding places in mind, you should have no trouble finding the perfect place to store your spare key for when you need it the most. Pick your favorite hiding place or stick a spare key in each one of the suggested spots so you will have multiple spare keys to pick from.
